Simulation of A Compressed Flat Lens Antenna Filled With Impedance Surface Units

Using a convex lens is a popular way to improve an antenna's directivity, but the lens is usually thick and heavy. In this paper, through the improved discrete transform electro magnetics method, a 2-D flat lens can be obtained by compressing the 2-D convex lens, the thick is reduced by near 50%, besides the compressed lens can be filled with impedance Surface units. The simple reflector are used to make the electromagnetic wave pass through the compressed lens. The simulated data indicate that the flat lens has similar phase adjustment performance with the convex lens. As a result, compared with an antenna without the flat lens, a gain enhancement of 2.5 dB is achieved.
