A Nano-Watt Dual-Mode Address Detector for a Wi-Fi Enabled RF Wake-up Receiver

2019
A nano-watt dual-mode address detector is designed and implemented within a radio frequency wake- up receiver (WuRx). The WuRx operates at a frequency of 2.42 GHz with a sensitivity of −30 dBm. The designed address detector decodes an address obtained by pulse width modulation of bursts of Wi-Fi frames. The design achieves an ultra-low current consumption of 160 nA in listening state and 3.16 μA in the processing state. The WuRx is tested in an agricultural application for controlling soil moisture measurements. Experimental results and analysis indicate high robustness and extended sensor lifetime, demonstrating the design’s effectiveness for emerging IoT applications.
