Simulation Analysis of Current-sharing Temperature of Nb 3 Sn/Cu Wire

2018
Applications of Nb 3 Sn for high magnetic fields are increasing sharply. The power-law index, n-value, represents the speed of a superconductor transferring from superconducting state to normal state, and plays an important role in quench propagation of superconductor. An evaluation method of current-sharing temperature is proposed based on the power-law model. The effects of the current-sharing temperature for Nb 3 Sn on the n-value and on the magnetic flux density are calculated and discussed, when Nb 3 Sn wire is assumed to experience an adiabatic temperature rise due to disturbance. Moreover, the change of current-sharing temperature over the moderate intrinsic-strain range (the range where most magnets are designed) is calculated and analyzed.
