On the presence of I*(2P12) as a product of the F + I2 reaction

1985
Abstract The infrared emission of I*( 2 P 1 2 ) atoms at 1.315 μm has been observed in a fast-flow reactor from the reaction of F atoms with iodine molecules. F atoms were produced either in an electronic discharge by dissociation of a fluorinated compound or in a combustor from the reaction of excess F 2 and D 2 with helium diluent. The lower limit for the microscopic branching ratio I*/I was found to be 0.03 by comparison with the HF(Δυ = 2) emission resulting from the F + H 2 reaction.
