NUMERICAL STUDY ON PARAMETRIC RESONANCE OF CABLES IN CABLE STAYED BRIDGES

This paper presents a mathematical model of multiple degrees of freedom for parametric vibration analysis of cable stayed bridge cables and its solution by using a direct integration method. It is pointed out that parametric resonance may occur in cable stayed bridges due to deck vibration under certain conditions. The effects of structural damping and some other factors are investigated on the basis of the numerical analysis results obtained, and possible approaches of cable oscillation reduction are discussed.
