Evolution of the PV industry in Argentina

PV development in Argentina was provided with an initial ‘window of opportunity’ by the Argentine Law 26190 ‘National Promotion for the use of renewable sources of energy in the production of electricity’ [2006], which promoted the use of renewable energy sources to reach 8% of the Argentinean energy matrix (excluding hydro) by 2016. However, the development pace of PV has been slower than expected, with renewable energy sources having currently a small share in the electricity matrix, with 0.4% of the total energy generation. This paper analyses the main difficulties in the Argentine PV industry, its current status and potential.
