Spectrum Sharing for Vehicular Communications in A Multi-operator Scenario

At 5.9 GHz intelligent transportation system (ITS) band, there are two competing standards supporting vehicular networking, namely dedicated short-range communication (DSRC) and long-term evolution-vehicle (LTE-V). In this work, we study spectrum sharing for vehicular communications in a multi-operator scenario, in which the operators deploy their vehicular networks based on DSRC and LTE-V respectively. Specially, we study how vehicular users choose network to access in the aforementioned scenario. To estimate the network load of LTE-V and that of DSRC which are time-varying, we propose a quality-of-service (QoS) assessment mechanism with the consideration of vehicular users' high mobility. We use Vickrey-Clarke-Groves (VCG) reverse auction mechanism to let vehicular users make appropriate access decisions. Moreover, to achieve better spectrum efficiency and QoS provisioning for vehicular users, we propose a spectrum transaction algorithm based on carrier sensing and adaptive transmission (CSAT) mechanism, with which LTE-V and DSRC can negotiate about spectrum sharing. Simulation results verify the effectiveness of the proposed vehicular user access scheme and show the impact of the vehicle density and transmission rate on the QoS of vehicular users.
