Long Queries: Additional Techniques

The SQL query language and specifically PostgreSQL provide several data structures and query structuring tools that are intended to facilitate query development and improve readability.In this chaper we show how misuse of these structures and tools can affect performance and how to use them for performance improvement. We discuss temporary tables, common table expressions, views, materialixed views, partitioning, and briefly touch parallel execution.
