Sensitized red luminescence from Mn2+-doped Olgite-type phosphates

2013
Abstract Bright red luminescence is observed from Mn 2+ -doped olgite-type Na 2 BaMgP 2 O 8 with the aid of Eu 2+ or Ce 3+ sensitizer. Under ultraviolet (UV) light, Na 2 BaMgP 2 O 8 : Eu 2+ and Na 2 BaMgP 2 O 8 : Ce 3+ exhibit intense near-UV emissions derived from 5 d –4 f electron transition. Since their emission bands have substantial spectral overlap with the excitation bands of Mn 2+ in Na 2 BaMgP 2 O 8 , Mn 2+ emission is successfully sensitized by resonance energy transfer. Detailed spectral consideration has revealed that Eu 2+ and Ce 3+ occupying interlayer A -site mainly contribute to the enhancement of the Mn 2+ emission.
