Some new results in development of pulse combustor

2000
The experiments with the pulse engine started in the 70's, when a demand appeared to warm up Diesel engines in less than 20 minutes in a -40°C environment with the help of a small, mobile heating unit. After the review of the literature, the ideal solution for the problem was a system using the effect of pulsation. The engine, that had been developed by Huber has a nominal output of 10 kW, which was upgraded to 50 kW. With the help of some new results a mobile system was developed by us, that needed electricity only for the starting process. Through the experimental work, right by the engineering problems some new questions appeared, which had to be answered. The dependence of the geometrical structure on the frequency and the dependence of the frequency on the heat transfer coefficient between the gas and the wall. These results will be shown in this article updated with the emission and sound level of the pulse engine.
