Polarization selector based on a square waveguide

2001
Summary form only given. In passive airspace panoramic systems of remote sensing the atmosphere, hydrosphere and Earth surface the information is received and processed by two orthogonal polarizations - vertical and horizontal. The realization of the polarization selector for such systems on the basis of a circular waveguide which is coupled to two rectangular waveguides with the aid of longitudinal slots leads to essential limitations at their frequency range and decoupling between channels. On the basis of investigations carried out, a polarization selector consisting of a square waveguide with with transverse slots and an orthogonal working channel at the base of the rectangular waveguides was designed. It should be noted that such a selector has a smaller size in comparison with the selector with longitudinal coupling slots. The results of measurements of selector characteristics were presented. From a comparison of these data and results obtained for the polarization selector based on circular and square waveguides with longitudinal slots one can see that the designed small-dimensional polarization selector has better electrodynamic characteristics. In particular decoupling is higher than 5-10 dB.
