SECONDARY BATTERIES – LEAD– ACID SYSTEMS | Valve-Regulated Batteries: Gel

2009
Lead–acid batteries in gel technology were developed and introduced into the market in 1958 by Sonnenschein GmbH (now known as Deutsche EXIDE). These batteries were the first valve-regulated lead–acid batteries worldwide. The goal was to have the following battery characteristics: maintenance free – no topping up of water necessary; nonspillable – no free acid or spray even in tilted position; and use in all positions (especially portable applications).
