Possible mechanism of the influence of a magnetic field on volume phases of artificial membranes
1985
The deformation of the volume phases (microlenses) of bilayer lipid membranes by a stationary homogeneous magnetic field is considered. A quasi-liquid-crystal continuum approach is used for the amphiphile monolayers that bound the volume phase. We take into account the linear tension (the analogue of surface tension) for the lens-bilayer phase-aqueous solution three-phase separation boundary. An estimate of the effect is given.
