Influence of pollution and defects on the surface electric field distribution of overhead line HV composite insulator

2020
Digital tools may be an excellent alternative to experimental measurement techniques to assess the influence of various parameters on the behavior of an overhead line type composite insulator. This paper aims at studying the influence of size and position of certain defects present in the insulators, as well as the influence of pollution on the surface of composite overhead line insulators, on the axial and radial components of the electric field. We have shown that pollution discontinuities and peeling off, especially with the presence of water, located near the application of HV, induce the most significant field variations.
