Microsurgical treatment of lung cancer with brain metastases

Objective: To investigate the surgical indications and operative methods of lung cancer with brain metastases. To improve the clinical value of microsurgical treatment on the brain metastases. Methods: 46 cases of lung cancer with brain metastases in our department in 1996 to 2005 were analyzed retrospectively. The performed treatments were microsurgery, whole brain radiation therapy and chemotherapy after operation. Results: Among all the cases, 37 cases were total resection(80.43%), 9 cases near total resection(19.57%). No case died during operations. 27 cases completely relieved(58.48%), 10 cases partial relieved(21.74%), 5 cases were unimproved(10.87%), 4 cases aggravated(8.91%). Follow-up was performed from 3 to 24 months after operation. Survival rate was 12.82% in 24 months. Conclusion: The microsurgical treatment on the lung cancer with brain metastases are effective and reliable. Committed radiation therapy and chemotherapy after operation can prolong patient' survival period, and improve their life qualitie.
