Agrobiodiversidad y su integración comunitaria en la estrategia de soberanía alimentaria Viñales. Cuba

With the aim of contributing to the territorial strategy of the Vinales municipality, the Environmental Research and Services Center (ECOVIDA) in conjunction with the Vinales National Park protected area and the support of the Global Program of Small Grants of the UNDP Office in Cuba (PPD / UNDP), carried out actions aimed at conserving natural resources and their biological diversity, with the active participation of local inhabitants of the communities associated with the protected area. The implementation of good practices and the introduction of efficient technologies and their technological innovation, has managed to create new capacities in agricultural farms, thereby contributing to increase agricultural agrobiodiversity in the Cultural Landscape and the protected area, through the use of the research method participatory action, through a qualitative approach with the participation of local actors in research and the search for viable alternatives with the rural environment and sustainable agricultural development. The main results focused on the reforestation of degraded areas, the implementation of agroforestry systems linked to coffee production, the design and implementation of agroecological farms, the reduction of rural depopulation, the improvement of agrobiodiversity, a greater empowerment of rural women and the strength of the eco-tourism product in the Vinales destination with the incorporation of new farms into agrotourism, in addition to a greater awareness of rural communities in the protection of natural and cultural resources
