Effect of small plastic deformation on the structure and properties of an Al-Li-Cu-Zr alloy containing magnesium

The effect of small plastic deformation, performed between the operations of quenching and artificial aging, on the structure and properties of a 1450 Al-Li-Cu-Zr alloy with magnesium additions was studied. It was shown that the deformation affects the phase composition of the alloys (facilitates precipitation of the S' (S) phase) and influences the nucleation and volume fraction of the δ', θ', and T 1 phases. The causes of increasing strength properties with the preservation of good ductility were discussed
