Nutritional profile of normo and hypercholesterolemic post Menopausal women

2006
Twenty seven normal (group I) and hypercholestrolemic (group II) postmenopausal women of 45–60 years each were selected from Punjab Agricultural University Hospital and campus, Ludhiana. The dietary survey revealed that the average daily diet consumed by all the subjects was inadequate with respect to cereals, pulses, green leafy vegetables and roots and tubers. When compared with RDAs, the intake of energy and protein was almost adequate whereas iron intake was grossly inadequate but intake of fat was significantly higher. Energy intake was significantly higher in the subjects from group II as compared to those from group I. A larger number of subjects (81.5%) from group II as compared to 70.4% from group I were belonging to category I and II of obesity on the basis of their BMI. Values for blood parameters of the subjects from group II were also much higher than those from group I.
