Sentimento decomunidade ebem-esta em contexto institucional : Perceção das pessoas idosas

EnglishStudies about the sense of community (SoC) show us that this concept is related with greater participation or involvement in community life, satisfaction with life, mobilization capacity for solving personal and collective problems, self-esteem, perceived social support and with quality social relationships. Research on the SoC in gerontological contexts is still scarce, but the literature suggests its relationship with successful aging. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between SoC and well-being in institutional contexts designed for the elderly. The sample of this study consists of 274 persons over 60 years old attending several gerontological contexts: daycare centres, residential structures for the elderly and senior schools. Results show us a high sense of community in all three types of the institutions under study, with statistically significant differences, higher in day centers and residentials for the elderly. The SoC also revealed a moderate positive correlation with life satisfaction, satisfaction with social support and positive affectivity. The relevance of this research rests on the possibility of giving voice to elderly perceptions in institutional context and to frame planning and social intervention measures in these contexts in order to promote the SoC, seen as a catalyst for successful aging. portuguesOs estudos sobre o sentimento de comunidade (SdC) revelam que este conceito esta associado a uma maior participacao ou envolvimento na vida da comunidade, satisfacao com a vida, capacidade para mobilizacao na resolucao dos problemas pessoais e coletivos, autoestima, suporte social percebido e qualidade das relacoes sociais. A investigacao sobre o SdC em contexto gerontologico e ainda parca, mas a literatura sugere a sua relacao com o envelhecimento bem-sucedido. O objetivo deste estudo e analisar a relacao entre o SdC e bem-estar em contexto institucional dirigido a pessoa idosa. A amostra e constituida por 274 pessoas com mais de 60 anos a frequentar diversos contextos gerontologicos: centros de dia, Estruturas Residenciais para Pessoas Idosas (ERPI) e escolas seniores. Os principais resultados indicam um elevado sentimento de comunidade nas tres tipologias de instituicoes consideradas, sendo as diferencas estatisticamente significativas mais elevadas em centros de dia e ERPI. O SdC apresentou uma relacao positiva moderada com a satisfacao com a vida, satisfacao com suporte social e afetividade positiva. A pertinencia desta investigacao relaciona-se com a possibilidade de dar voz a percecao da pessoa idosa em contexto institucional e compreender medidas de planeamento e intervencao social no contexto gerontologico que promovam o SdC que podera ser um catalisador para o envelhecimento bem-sucedido.
