Desindustrialización, terciarización y estructura metropolitana: un debate conceptual necesario

2008
Industrialization, the urbanization it boosted and its stories have generated many theories and interpretations from many schools of thought. Its opposite, the deindustrialization, has been less studied. This process has been observed in many Latin-American countries since the 1982 crisis, but its analysis lacks theoretical and interpretative references and faces the skepticism of those who seek explanations such as tertiarization of the economy, seen as ineluctable in the current modernization. We will analyze the conceptualizations debated in the eighties, and will confront them with the structural conditions and historical circumstances in Latin America and its metropolis; we will also search for its causes and its possible impact on urban structures produced by industrialization.
