Sexual behavior and factors affecting condom use among Zhejiang hotel lodgers, China.

Objective To investigate sexual behavior and factors affecting condom use among hotel lodgers,Zhejiang.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted among hotel lodgers,which were randomly recruited from the hotels of two cities in Zhejiang province.Participants with sex behavior in hotels and hostel rest-houses were chosen for further investigation.A self-administered questionnaire and a telephone interview were completed to assess knowledge of sexual behavior related to HIV/AIDS,risk awareness of HIV infection,attitudes toward hotel providing education and preventive materials including HIV prevention handbooks and condoms,et al.Results 410 hotel lodgers aged 17-60 years participated the study.58.5%(240/410) participants reported sex behavior in hotel and 26.7%(64/240) of them used condoms consistently.The hotel lodgers with descent salary(2000 RMB monthly)(OR=2.123,P0.05) and stayed in the hotel of B city(OR=1.961,P0.05) had higher proportions of condom use.Hotel lodgers used condoms more frequently when they believed that the placement of condoms in hotel increases the awareness of condom use and helps in prevention of HIV(OR=4.130,4.551,P0.05).Conclusion Hotel lodgers had high rate of sexual behaviors without condom use.Providing education materials and free condoms would promote condom use and decrease risky sexual behavior in hotel.
