A Computer- Aided Method to Detect Bleeding Frames in Capsule Endoscopy Images

2019
In this paper, a novel method is proposed to detect bleeding frames in capsule endoscopy images. Viewing directly the gastrointestinal tract is a general way for bleeding detection. Capsule endoscopy is a painless and non-invasive direct visual inspection way for diagnosing diseases in the gastrointestinal tract. This technology has many advantages over the other techniques. However, it is a tedious task for physicians to review the whole video frames. An automatic computer-aided method is then used in order to reduce the burden of physician. it is based on expectation maximization segmentation approach that decomposes the input image into potential regions of interest. Two sets of color and statistical features are then extracted from these regions. Finally, support vector machine is used to discriminate bleeding from normal frames. The obtained results on a large database demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed method in term of recall and precision measures
