Virtual Element Scheme for Linear Contact Treatment in Finite Element Analysis using Parallel Multi-Frontal Method

2010
Due to the characteristics that parallel multi-frontal method does not constitute the complete global stiffness matrix but the stiffness matrix from each domain, a virtual element scheme was proposed to efficiently handle contact problems. In this paper, the penalty method used was adopted and contact formulation was implemented on node-to-segment basis. For stress analysis, vibration analysis and heat transfer analysis, the reliabilities of the virtual element scheme were validated and parallel computing performance was confirmed.
