소로우의 『윌든』과 법정의 『무소유』 그리고 ‘생명존중’

2021
This work focuses on the idea of ‘Life Dignity’ based on the coexistence of nature and humans, which is coincidentally seen in Walden-Life in the Woods by Thoreau and Simatiga by Beopjeong. With the works, where two thinkers show their reverence to nature and life through their life practice, we investigate the idea of ‘Life Dignity’ and its ‘Practices as a Buddhist Bodhisattva’ originated from ‘The Sutra of the Lotus.’ We demonstrate that humans in modern society should find their own way to practice ‘Life Dignity,’ treating nature and other people with sincerity as Thoreau and Beopjeong did. By doing that, humans could reach Bodhisattva’s way toward self-realization and self-transcendence, instead of being dominated by materialism. We also emphasize that the practice of ‘Life Dignity’ recalls our altruistic behavior, which could help people to be connected beyond countries, races, and religions.
