Driving paper feed and ink suction generator from same motor in ink jet printer

In an ink jet printer having a reciprocable print head carriage, the carriage is provided with a selection mechanism 40 which is switchable between an operative and an inoperative condition by coaction of a formation 43b with a setting mechanism (not shown) at one extreme position of reciprocation of the carriage. When in its operative condition, the selector 42b abuts a lever 30 on the machine frame (at the opposite extreme position of reciprocation to the setting means) to shift an intermediate drive wheel 20 from a paper-feeding gear train to a suction recovery gear train.
