An analgesic mixture for minor surgical procedures in young children

1958
Summary A mixture of meperidine hydrochloride(Demerol), chlorpromazine hydrochloride (Thorazine), and promethazine hydrochloride (Phenergan) has been used in a total of eighty-nine cardiac catheterizations and angiocardiographic studies. This type of sedation has practically replaced all forms of general anesthesia formerly used during such procedures at the University of Virginia. This mixture has proved safe to use, easy to administer, effective in sedating the patient, and has appreciably reduced the number of postoperative complications and need for nursing care.
