Focal Infectious Diseases

2015
The incidence of pyogenic liver abscess is about 10 cases per million persons per year, or 15 cases per 100,000 hospital admissions, with a lethality rate of 6–14 %, even if treated [1, 2]. The patient usually is middle aged, and the incidence is higher between the fifth and sixth decade (the period in which the incidence of biliary disease is higher as well). No difference can be observed as regards sex and ethnic or geographical origin.
