Analysis of Different Inverter Topologies for Utilization of Renewable Energy for Grid Support

2018
With the increasing penetration of electric-based system to enhance the urban lifestyle, the demand on the city grid is increasing. To compensate the increasing demand on the grid, electricity generation needs to raise. As most of the generations are fossil fuel based conventional power plants which are the major contributor to greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere. Hence, renewable energy sources can be used for electrical energy generation. This will not only help to promote renewable energy sources but would also help to reduce emissions and hence result in an environmentfriendly system. Since, the renewable energy sources like solar, wind, etc. are unreliable, and hence to use them, it is compulsory to store the generated energy. Now to utilize the stored energy, power electronics device like inverter is used. This paper presents a comparative review among three phase 120 mode inverter, 180 mode inverter, space vector pulse width modulation and 3 level multilevel diode clamped inverter on the basis of their total harmonic distortion that is analysed at the output for 10 cycles of each inverters at a given input voltage of 100 volt and a frequency of 50 Hertz. All the results were obtained in MATLAB, and the output is verified theoretically also.
