Energy Efficient Strip Annealing through Roll Regenerative Furnace

Abstract Steel strip annealing through Roll Regenerative Furnace is a new line concept developed by Drever International to achieve a more efficient energy heat treatment process through extensive heat regeneration. This patented concept combines both heating and cooling of strips in a continuous mode by means of simple rolls. An experimental investigation is carried out on a semi-industrial prototype, consisting essentially of a moving hot strip in contact with one roll. Quantitative infrared thermography is used to get the contact thermal conductance between the strip and the roll. Performance results emphasize the effect of industrial operating parameters.
