Lin Yutang's Argument about the Aftereffects of Scientific and Technological Civilization

2005
The author of this paper expounds Lin Yutang's thought and realization of the aftereffects resulted from scientific and technological civilization. Lin considered that while scientific and technological civilization had greatly benefited the human, it had also left some negative effects: mechanization, materialism, power politics and pessimism so that it seriously distorted and thoroughly confounded the relationship between the human and matter, the human and himself, the human and nature. Consequently it dropped the human into an embarrassed, suffering, monstrous, alienated swamp which he was unable to escape from by himself.
