Active Vibration Control of Three-Floor Structure System under Seismic Excitation based on Fixed Structure PID Controller Tuning by H ∞ Synthesis

2021
Designing a structural control system to suppress unexpected disturbance in the tall building under seismic excitation is very challenging. To achieve an Active Vibration Control (AVC) goal, Active Mass Damping (AMD) systems have been implemented in modern architectures. However, it is difficult to tune the control parameters to achieve good performance and efficiency. In this paper, a fixed-structure H ∞ control method is proposed to tune PID gains for the AMD system in a three-floor scale model under Loma Prieta Earthquake excitation. The results show the efficiency of the proposed method. Under seismic excitation, the AMD system with the fixed-structure H ∞ control can significantly reduce the maximum deflection of the third floor compared with the AMD system controlled by PID-PSO tuner and without the AMD system.
