[Problem] To reduce the amount of ethylene glycol which is produced as a by-product, to achieve a balance between productivity and properties such as water absorbency, and to reduce the number of defective goods when manufacturing a water-absorbent resin, particularly a resin which is surface crosslinked using an alkylene carbonate compound. [Solution] A manufacturing method for a polyacrylic acid (salt)-based water-absorbent resin powder, said method being characterised in that in the surface crosslinking step, a mixing process in which (1) a surface crosslinking agent containing an alkylene carbonate compound and a polyhydric alcohol compound is mixed with a water absorbent resin powder and thermally reacted, and an ionic reactive surface crosslinking agent is mixed with said mixture at either the same time, or separately from the above mixing, and/or (2) a surface crosslinking solution containing at least one kind of ionic reactive surface crosslinking agent is mixed with the water-absorbent resin powder, said mixing process being carried out at least two times.
