QUELQUES OBSERVATIONS SUR LA PSYCHOLOGIE EN ALGERIE: UNE PERSPECTIVE TRANSCULTURELLE

In this article we would like to familiarize our Francophone colleagues with the Algerian sociocultural background as well as with some aspects of psychology in Algeria. This information should facilitate contacts between Francophone and Algerian psychologists in order to contribute to research in the area of cross-cultural psychology. There are three institutes of psychology and educational sciences in Algeria. Most psychologists hold degrees from French universities. Psychologists are not organized into an independent association, but they belong to ‘The Union of Algerian Sociologists and Economists’. Their research projects are concerned with problems specific to Algerian culture as well as with problems in general psychology. We believe that for cross-cultural research, the Algerian culture could provide different factors or greater extremes of factors than those found in the West. Factors related to certain behavior differ in Algeria from those found in the West. One important area of cross-cultural research is the adaptation and validation of tests of personality and intelligence. Dans cet article, nous voudrions familiariser nos'collegues francophones avec le milieu social et culturel algerien aussi bien que plusiers aspects de la psychologie en Algerie. Ces informations devraient faciliter les contacts entre les psychologues francophones et les psychologues algeriens pour contribuer a la recherche dans le domaine de la psychologie transculturelle. Il y a trois Instituts de Psychologie et des Sciences de l'Education en Algerie. La plupart des psychologues sont titulaires d'un diplome des universites francaises. Les psychologues ne sont pas regroupes au sein d'une association independante, mais ils dependent de ‘L'Union des Sociologues et Economistes Algeriens’. Leurs projet de recherche concernent des problemes specifiques a la culture algerienne aussi bien que des problemes de psychologie generale. Nous croyons que pour la recherche transculturelle, la culture algerienne peut fournir des facteurs differents ou une dispersion de variables plus grandes que ce que l'on trouve en occident. Aussi, les facteurs relatifs a un certain comportement different en Algerie par rapport a ceux que l'on trouve en occident. Un domaine important de recherche transculturelle est l'adaptation et la validation de tests de personnalite et d'intelligence.
