Preparation of anionic silicone emulsion by phase inversion

The emulsion polymn. by octomethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) ring-opening was studied, and the in-fluences of the temps., catalyst and emulsifier amts. on the reaction rate, transfer ratio and emulsion stability were discussed. Bluish translucent anionic silicone emulsions with 40% solids and no oil sepn. were prepd. under optimized conditions of pre-emulsification of D4 by phase inversion and continuous polymn. with emulsifiers of SDBS∶OP-10 = 3∶2 ~ 1∶1 (wt ratio) at emulsifier amts. of 1%~ 2%.
