Provided are: a polymerizable composition that can inhibit the occurrence of turbidity, optical distortion, and striae in a transparent resin obtained therefrom; the transparent resin obtained from the polymerizable composition; an optical material containing the transparent resin; a plastic lens containing the optical material; and a method for manufacturing the transparent resin. The polymerizable composition contains a polythiol compound having at least three mercapto groups, and a polyiso(thio)cyanate compound having at least one aromatic ring, wherein the polythiol compound has a thiol equivalence ratio, which is the ratio of the measured value of thiol equivalent to the theoretical value of thiol equivalent, of at least 0.975 but less than 1.000.
