Effects of Intramuscular Injection of Botulinum Toxin Type B in Nonhuman Primates

1993
Botulinum Toxin Type B (Bot B) is proposed as a therapeutic agent for the treatment of uncontrolled contractions of specific muscles in the shoulder and neck, associated with the disease, cervical dystonia. When injected into specific muscles, Botulinum Toxin Type B is expected to produce a localized pre-synaptic neuromuscular block by preventing release of acetylcholine from nerve endings, reducing the excessive muscle contractions characteristic of cervical dystonia.
