Gender Equity in Career and Technical Education

2014
For girls who grew up prior to 1972, it was common to be told they could not take a woodworking or auto mechanics classsimply because they were girls. And boys were not allowed to take home economics classes or to study nursing-simply because they were boys. There was a clear delineation of what the roles of men and women were to be, and public policy intended to keep it that way. Fortunately, girls and boys of today have many more options open to them. But while options are present, so are pressures.
