The basins of Caripi and Igarape Acu rivers belong to the municipalities of Marapanim and Igarape Acu in Para state. They are part of the coastal catchment system with fluvial-estuarine behavior that drain the northeastern state of Para. The process of land use and land occupation represent a threat on the potential of water maintenance in these basins. Therefore, this study evaluated different methods for determining the riparian forest area and its relation to water sustainability.
