Simplified phase-control technique for interference suppressions in phased array antennas

2010
A simplified phase control technique to suppress the interference for the specified direction is proposed in phased array antennas. In this technique, phase distribution is divided into an equiphase part and inclined-phase parts in the beam-scanning plane, and a low-sidelobe characteristic can be achieved by controlling distributions of inclined-phase parts. In the 824-elements array, sidelobe level less than −40 dB at the specified angle was obtained with beam scanning from 0 to 15 degrees. Furthermore, to reduce the increasing of the sidelobe level due to the phase quantization error, we used randomizing phase method. We statistically analyzed this method and showed the effectiveness of this method. In conclusion, the proposed technique and randomizing phase method is effective for the interference suppression for the specified direction in phased array antennas.
