Qualification by Laser Measurements of the Passive Control on the LVA-1A Airfoil in the T2 Wind Tunnel

1997
The present study concerns an experimental investigation of a passive shock/boundary layer interaction control system used on an airfoil. The passive control system is installed in the shock region and consists of a local porous part of the airfoil surface covering a small internal cavity. So the pressure jump through the shock wave is weakened by a natural fluid circulation through the porous plate, reducing the wave drag. At the same time, the viscous drag is increased, and wake measurements show that the total drag increases overall.
