Low-elevation Target Height Finding Algorithm for Metre Band Radar Using Weighted Direct Data Domain(WD~3) Approach

In this paper,the propagation environment and the data model for metre band radar are analyzed first.Then,a novel elevation angle estimation method called weighted direct data domain(WD3) approach is proposed for low-angle tracking of metre band radar.Compared with the conventional maximum likelihood(ML) based low-angle tracking method,the proposed method has two major advantages: 1) the WD3 makes full use of the secondary data to form the weighted(pre-whitened) matrix,thus provides a robust performance in the presence of spatially correlated noise;2) the WD3 only involves real-valued processing,so has much lower computational complexity.These advantages have potential for making the proposed method more feasible in practical application.Numerical results are used to demonstrate the performance of the proposed method,especially in the case of low-elevation target and low SNR.
