RESPONSE OF WHOLE BODY IRRADIATED ORGANISMS AFTER AN INCREASE OF SOME OXIDOREDUCTION PROCESSES

1960
Three groups of guinea pigs previously brought to hyperthyroid state by means of thyrotropin and groups of hyperthyroid animals in normal metabolic conditions due to the administration of a hypothermic cocktail were submitted to lethal and sublethal doses of irradiation. Lethal dose curves were obtained which compared with the curve from control animals, show that the radiosensitivity in the hyperthyroid animals is rather higher than in the normal ones, the rate being 1.48 for the first group, while in the second group the radiosensitivity was similar to that of normal animals. It is concluded that in the hyperthyroid animal the higher radiosensitivity is for the most part due to the increase in general metabolism. (auth)
