In developed countries the number of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma is continuously growing over the past decade. The possible reason is an increase in the number of patients with cirrhosis and chronic hepatitis in 1970-1990. To assess the effect of hepatitis B and C on the natural history and prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma we analyzed the results of examination of 130 patients. Hepatitis B and C led to early tumor relapse after curative treatment, unfavorable prognosis, and high lethality.
