FLOOD ROUTING OF LOWER INDUS RIVER

Flood discharge data River Indus at Gudu and Sukkur Barrages for the years 1975 and 1976 were collected for the flood routing analysis. Characteristic curves based on simple Hydrologic method were computed and drawn from the 1975 year flood discharge data. The 1976 outflow at Sukkur Barrage was estimated from the 1976 year inflow data at Gudu Barrage and was compared with corresponding observed outflow at Sukkur Barrage, and the results thus obtained are found to be satisfactory for practical purposes. The minimum and maximum difference between estimated and observed outflow at Sukkur Barrage are of the order of 2.6% and 16.2% respectively.
