�Reducing thequantifyofoiland greaseinurban stormwater runoffisnecessarytoprotectthe qualityofSan FranciscoBay .Traditionaltechnologiesdesignedforindustrialsettingsand municipalwastewatertreatmentdo nothave thecapabilitytoremove oiland greasefrom stormwater on a cost-efficient basis giventhesporadicnatureofdischargeand relativelylow pollutantconcentrations.Innovativecontrolstrategiesaredescribedthatcouldeasilybeimplemented followingpilotstudyevaluations.Most ofthesestrategies couldbeappliedtorelatively little drainage,and substantialoverallreductionsinoiland greaseloadingwould result.Alternatively,thereissome opportunityforbasin-widecontrols,which would restrictinputtothe watershed and end-of-pipetreatmentofrunoffimmediately precedingitsdischargeintotheBay .
