Medroxyprogesterone acetate in the treatment of postmenopausal syndrome

35 women average age 57.2 with inoperable endometrial cancer were treated with 10 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate daily for a combined total of 105 treatment months. These women had complained of severe heat flashes in 62.8% and medium-severe heat flashes in 31.4% of the cases. After 3 months 17% reported medium-severe heat flashes and 43% light heat flashes. Serum levels of FSH decreased and levels of LH decreased significantly; other laboratory values remained constant. There were few side effects; 3 cases of weight gain and individual cases of dry vagina pruritis fatigue headache and gastrointestinal disorders.
