Teacher Salaries in the Soviet Union

The salary schedule of teachers in the Soviet Union has been stationary for a decade. Khrushchev's planned and executed changes of prices, proposed reductions of taxes, and greater equalization of salaries and wages in several sectors of the economy, have not so far affected it. But the schools are changing steadily due to the implementation of the 1958 reforms. The atmosphere of general housecleaning, if nothing else, will virtually force the Soviet authorities to review soon the existing rates of pay. Such review and reform was, in fact, contemplated for 1962 according to information received at a high level in Moscow in 1961. But so far nothing has happened.
