In vitro anti-infection of ginseng saponin Rb2

2011
OBJECTIVE To study the anti-infection effect of ginseng saponin Rb2 in vitro.METHODS Invasion model of Staphylococcus aureus into rat pulmonary epithelial cells was introduced. The expression of bacterial adherence related genes were studied using RT-PCR.RESULTS Ginseng saponin did not affect the growth of S.aureus, but decreased the adherence and invasion to cells via modulating the expression of adherence related genes agr, sarA and fnbA.CONCLUSION There is an immunomodulation-independent pathway for ginseng saponin Rb2′s anti-infection effects, which modulate adherence related genes expression so as to decrease the deherence and invasion of S.aureus in to cells.
