Extensor digitorum brevis compartment syndrome

1992
Abstract We report four cases of activity-related chronic intermittent swelling and pain over the dorsum of the foot initially diagnosed as a ganglion and in whom exploration and fasciotomy over the extensor digitorum brevis led to a complete resolution of symptoms. A chronic compartment syndrome involving this muscle in its osteofascial space is proposed and the pathogenesis of such a disorder is postulated.
