Conceptual design of irradiation test facility for fusion blanket development

1992
Abstract A breeder blanket is indispensable for a fusion reactor in order to breed tritium and to produce thermal energy. In addition to demonstrating the physics of burning D-T plasmas, an experimental reactor such as the ITER will also conduct a verification test of a blanket design. The experimental blanket facility has been designed to obtain engineering data for the design of the blanket in the JMTR by irradiation of blanket mock-ups which are a water-cooled and helium gas swept type, and consider the ITER blanket conditions. From the results of the conceptual design, we conclude that this facility is able to satisfy the ITER blanket conditions on the in-pile irradiation test at the JMTR.
